Tohatsu
Tohatsu is Japan's oldest outboard manufacturer, having produced its first engine in 1956.
While often operating behind the scenes as an OEM manufacturer for other major brands, Tohatsu-branded engines are renowned for their rugged, no-nonsense durability. Their distinctive 4-2-1 Performance Tuned Exhaust system is a marvel of engineering, utilizing equal-length exhaust headers to maximize low-end torque and acceleration in their mid-range models. Tohatsu also pioneered TLDI (Two-stroke Low pressure Direct Injection) technology, providing 2-stroke performance with 4-stroke efficiency during the transition years of the early 2000s. Today, Tohatsu focuses on being the lightweight leader, consistently offering the lightest engines in the 20hp to 50hp classes.
