Johnson Outboards was a cornerstone of American recreational boating for nearly a century, known for the iconic 'Sea-Horse' brand.

Founded by the Johnson brothers in the early 1900s, the company was eventually merged into the Outboard Marine Corporation (OMC). Johnson engines were distinctive for their rugged simplicity and ease of maintenance, making them the most common sight on American lakes for decades. Their classic crossflow and later 'looper' 2-stroke designs were celebrated for their durability and consistent starting. While the brand transitioned to 4-stroke power through a partnership with Suzuki in the early 2000s, it is the vintage 2-stroke models that remain a favorite for DIY mechanics and restoration enthusiasts. Although production under the Johnson name ceased in 2007, their massive global footprint ensures that parts and technical support remain widely available for these legendary workhorses.
